The southern culture of honor is a traditional culture found in the Southern United States. this is so called because in this culture people intentionally avoid anything that would offend other people and at the same time they have this reputation of not accepting wrongful conduct by others as well. Why southerners followed this culture is not known completely but it is believed that retribution is the reason. They wanted to enforce their right and discourage any forced control on their family, home, or possessions. However, despite this, the African Americans had to suffer violence under slavery maybe because this challenged the superior whites to ensure that the honor of the African Americans were destroyed so that they could easily be controlled and made to do whatever the Whites wanted.
